Greece’s answer to Positano is in Epirus – What makes Parga unique

At a long, but definitely scenic 410km from Athens, via the seaside route from Preveza, one comes across one of the most beautiful, picturesque but also cosmopolitan corners of the country. Amphitheatrically built along the coastline of Epirus, a stay in Parga can also be a journey in itself, not unlike the more popular resorts along the Costiera Amalfitana of Italy.
The colorful, pastel buildings ascend from the Ionian Sea up the hills upon which the town is built. It seems that everyone’s first activity in Parga starts the same way: meandering the narrow streets from the waterfront, which almost comes as an instinct. Heading up, passing numerous small shops, some with souvenirs, others with traditional products, scattered among homes, all displaying their charming Ionian architecture. The path eventually leads up to the town’s medieval castle, equipped with its arched gate, old machine guns, bastions and forts, which played an important role in the survival of the town throughout its history.
Although Parga is on the Greek mainland, it is reminiscent of one of the Ionian islands that lie a stone’s throw away. Following the route towards the main harbor, with its jetty and large, commemorative anchor, this becomes ever more evident. Here, at town center of Parga, the patterns come to life: little taverns, restaurants, bars and cafés, boats coming and going, filled with visitors on their way to one of the many beaches, or even the islands of Paxos, the isle with Church of the Virgin Mary at the center of the bay, facing the town, only add to its overall magic. These all make up an image of Parga, that effortlessly puts one in a relaxed, holiday mood.
The area’s beaches, such as Lychnos, Piso Kryoneri and Valtos, all known for their breathtaking beauty and clear waters, complete Parga’s features, that make visiting a formidable summer experience
