A Postcard Island in the Ionian – It is Tiny and it has on it just two Churches and a Castle!

It may not be an unprecedented picture, since on top of many rocky islets in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea, the only building you can see is a small church, but this small island that stands at the opposite side of the harbor of Parga, will surely attract your attention and invite you to ... discover it.

We are talking about the lush little island of Panagia, with the picturesque bell tower and the small castle of French construction that was built in 1808. The inscription above the stone door next to the powder store states: Défense de la Patrie A.D. 1808.

A castle built to watch over the part of the bay of Parga that could not be seen by the great Venetian castle.

The only part of the castle preserved our days, is the enclosure, the gate and the fortress, all covered by the dense vegetation of the small picturesque island.

On the island you can find the homonymous chapel of Panagia, which many couples choose for their wedding. At the front part of the island you can also find the chapel of Agios Prokopios. A lot of people choose to swim or take a water bike and get to the island in order to relax.

Charming Parga

Of course the view from the islet is magnificent. On one hand you can see the Ionian Sea and on the other, the mesmerizing, picturesque, colorful Parga! A beautiful city built amphitheatrically on the outskirts of the Venetian castle. Its narrow paved alleys, climb to the castle hill and its elegant two and three-storey houses with their wooden balconies and tiled roofs – in accordance with the local tradition - create a picture that resembles a postcard and can be seen ... live from the graphical island of Panagia!
